Please read these Terms of Service carefully before using GomiMate. By requesting access to or using the app, you agree to be bound by these terms. If you do not agree, do not use GomiMate.
1. Acceptance of Terms
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the GomiMate mobile application, website at gomimate.com, and any related services (collectively, the “Service”) operated by GomiMate (“we”, “us”, “our”).
By requesting access to, creating an account for, or otherwise accessing the Service, you confirm that you are at least 13 years old and agree to these Terms.
2. Description of Service
GomiMate is a garbage collection calendar application for Japan. It provides:
- Neighbourhood-specific garbage collection schedules based on official municipal data
- Push notification reminders before collection days
- A guide to Japan’s waste-sorting categories
- A camera-based schedule import feature (“Scan”)
The Service is provided “as is”. While we strive for accuracy, collection schedules are sourced from third-party municipal data and may occasionally be out of date or incorrect.
3. Beta Access and Pricing
Beta access — GomiMate is currently in invite-only private beta. Access is complimentary during the beta period for all invited users. Beta invitations are granted subject to availability.
Future pricing — Following the beta, GomiMate plans to offer a standard plan (core features: calendar, reminders, sort guide, and one saved location) as well as an optional GomiMate Plus subscription (¥350/month) adding unlimited schedule scans, multiple saved location profiles, and priority support.
We will notify all beta users of any changes to access or pricing with at least 30 days’ notice before they take effect.
4. User Responsibilities
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract source code from the app
- Scrape, crawl, or automate access to our servers or municipal data feeds
- Impersonate any person or entity or misrepresent your affiliation
- Introduce malware, viruses, or any code intended to harm the Service or other users
- Use the Service in any way that could damage, disable, or impair its functionality
5. Accuracy of Schedule Data
Garbage collection schedules are sourced from official Japanese municipal open data. While we update schedules regularly, we cannot guarantee that every schedule is current or error-free. Collection days may change due to public holidays, severe weather, or municipal updates that have not yet been reflected in GomiMate.
Always check your local ward office’s official website or your physical collection notice if in doubt. GomiMate is a convenience tool and does not replace official municipal communications.
6. Intellectual Property
GomiMate, the GomiMate logo, the app design, and all original content are owned by or licensed to GomiMate and are protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.
Municipal garbage collection schedule data is sourced from publicly available government open data and is used in accordance with applicable open data licences (primarily CC BY 4.0 and government standard licences for Japan).
You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the app for personal, non-commercial purposes.
7. Privacy
Your use of GomiMate is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated into these Terms by reference.
8. Disclaimers
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, GOMIMATE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT.
We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of viruses. We are not responsible for any loss or damage arising from incorrect schedule data, missed notifications, or reliance on the Service.
9. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, GOMIMATE AND ITS OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOSS OF PROFITS OR DATA, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE.
Our total liability for any claim arising from these Terms or the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid to GomiMate in the 12 months preceding the claim, or ¥1,000, whichever is greater.
10. Termination
You may stop using GomiMate at any time by deleting the app. GomiMate Plus subscriptions must be cancelled separately through the App Store or Google Play.
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service if you violate these Terms, with or without notice.
11. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Japan. Any dispute arising from these Terms or the Service shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Tokyo District Court (東京地方裁判所) as the court of first instance, unless mandatory consumer protection laws in your country of residence require otherwise.
12. Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via in-app notification or email at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use of the Service after that date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
