Tennoji Ward — Local Waste Context

Tennoji Ward contains Shitennoji Temple (四天王寺), founded in 593 CE by Prince Shotoku — one of Japan's oldest Buddhist temples and a functioning religious institution. Temple precincts follow their own internal waste management, but the surrounding residential streets see large volumes of seasonal organic waste (flowers, incense, ritual paper) during major temple events. These items are burnable waste — ritual items such as ofuda (御札) and omamori (お守り) are accepted at the temple for ceremonial burning (お焚き上げ) and do not need to be put in regular garbage.
